You would need to upgrade your entire system ALONG WITH buying the GPU. I'm sure you all know by now, you would need a motherboard with a PCIe 4.0 slot as our standard PCIe 3.0 slot would just bottleneck an RTX 3080 Ti. Unless I hit the lotto, I'll stick to my GTX 1070 as I can run anything out there at max settings on a 32" 4K monitor. You may be more satisfied just getting yourself a 4K monitor as even a game as old as Left4Dead can be played at 3840 X 2160 resolution which makes games look their best. Movies like Avengers infinity war look spectacular. Trust me, I have been repairing and building computers for 33 years now.........get that 4K monitor and don't worry too much about ray tracing just yet.......Maybe 2 - 3 years.

Testing in a case it does get hot and sometimes over 80 partially due to room temps in my home as well though. The strix 1080 ti i had hit 84 all the time in demanding games in my old pc but this averages around mid 70's celsius wich aint too bad considering just how powerful it is.

  • Eagle

It's rtx 3080 tie, not ti. Ive heard jeff fisher (Senior VP from nvidia) say it himself in the Nvidia keynot stream where they announced the 3080 tie, not ti. im obviously kidding, if you didnt notice already

  • hogkill64

gamersnexus review was better. should be compared to the 3080 not the 3090, its more similar to the 3080 but at $500 higher MSRP. 3090 is a card for developers. actually this review has made me unsubscribe.

  • lord byron

Initially I wasn't as interested into this review since JayzTwoCents, GN, Moor's Law is dead, Hardware unboxed and other tech reviewers agreed to the same: Overpriced, doesn't make sense, they've fooled the 3090 buyers and it doesn't help the shortage. Specifically I heard a lot of people giving negative comments about this review, hence coming here to check it out. I am disappointed with this review and LTT used to have better formulated content before. Question: How does half the memory help making 2 3080Ti's instead of one 3090 when it's the same die, just cut down? The issue is in GPU companies not being able to ramp up enough chips for the dies and not the memory. Just cutting down on memory doesn't help creating more GPU's. This is, from at least what I understood from other Tech LVdownrs and people in profession, just a die that didn't meet the 3090 standards, but is good enough for 3080Ti "quality standards".

  • Jake Foster
    Jake Foster

Nvidia should have nerfed the 3060-3080s so people would be happier about the 3080 ti price/performance it seems. The 3060 ti is the same performance as a 2080ti and people are complaining that the value isn't there....the value is in the 3060 ti. Every card can't be the best value option. If you want the best value then just don't buy the one with the lower value. The problem is you can't get any period, not that the 3080 ti has a $1199 MSRP.

  • Jake Foster
    Jake Foster

I love how 99% of the angry people wouldn't be looking for one even if it was $999. How cheap did people think it would be? I get why people are angry, but being angry at the 3080 ti is silly. Be angry that all GPUs are OoS and that any option under $600 USD doesn't exist. The 3080/ti/90 cards have nothing to do with lower tier cards. If $1199 is outrageous you were never the person who would buy one and it literally makes 0 difference for the availability of lower tier cards. It really sucks no budget options exist, I just helped my stepdad build a PC for WoW and had to put an old RX 570 at ebay prices.

3080ti 10 pct faster then the 3080 but 60 pct more expensive (if the MSRP ever becomes possible). That bit where the tale is spun about the 12 GIG's enabling twice the number of 3080ti's to be produced with the resource of 1 3090 is just so simplistic. By same reasoning Nvidia could then produce 120 pct more 3080's , now that would make us happy. As far as this review in my eyes = a commercial message from NVIDIA.

  • 117TheWolf

Nuance is a foreign concept to basically everyone nowadays. Jeez, people, the entire reason tech journalists/LVdownrs are so close knit and recommend watching each others’ content is so that we, the viewers, can benefit from a range of approaches and opinions to form our own conclusions. Do you want Linus and peers to parrot the exact same talking points as each other, or do you want their honest takes? Choose carefully and mind your instinct for outrage.

06:35 what? You asked NVidia : What make them release this card as such low price? ,lol , guys the price is low why? LTT: Please tell us the secret why ? We know you love gamers, we seen that during your years in history but why bless us with such low price?! Nvidia: Because of you Linus, you are our weakness, you made us see the light

    • zon tarr
      zon tarr

Bullshit VRAM response from Nvidia and Linus bought it. If they humbly reduce the VRAM to make more 3080TI cards than 3090’s, why they don’t want to make more 3080’s with less VRAM ? That are cheaper at msrp? Answer : because they want more money, instead of buying one 3090 they can fool people tho buy more 3080ti’, with help of influencers, almost at same price and also they can clear their stock of bad chips.

  • Troik

so your argument for not comparing it to the 2080ti is because only 0.79% of Steam Users have that? Ignoring that even a percent out of their like 100+ Million users is a lot, it's a flawed argument because you then compare it to the 3090, which only 0.30% of steam users have.

Considering I missed out on a 3080 thanks to scalpers and I have now managed to score an ASUS ROG Strix 3080Ti for 2000 Aussie Dollars, that has to be close to MSRP right? It was in stock, easy to get, I don't understand why everyone is complaining. It was way cheaper than I could find a 3080 on marketplace.

Thermals are nice, but what about noise with the undersized cooler ? I made a mistake of buying a 3080ti from Gainward, and the thing can't even manage to be fanless for web surfing... And even at 30% fan, the thing is absolutely unbearable, not to mention the 100% when playing games that are GPU limited - I'm returning it and keeping with a 1060 in the meantime. Does the 3080ti FE have the same problem ?

I bought the 3080ti. It was the only card i could actually get at european msrp (1199 euro/1460) dollars. I rather paid that , than pay 800 dollars for a 3060. I had a 960, so i needed an upgrade. So its nice to finally hear a less salty review. Everybody knows pretty much every card is overpriced. This will not change anyway for a long time. Who knows, this is the new normal. Times change. It sucks.

the bad taste of this video doesnt come from what linus SAID, its what he is not saying. If you dont compare this card to a 3080, or the lower rest of the product stack, you are actually practising NVIDIAs own marketing rather than sticking to your viewers intrest. The 3090 and 6900XT are stupid products, comparing any card to them is like telling people: "its atleast better than getting robbed lol" .... - dear Linus, that was a big mistake

Yuck, this is basically just some slimy nvidia pr guy talking through linus. LTT is becoming the bottom-barrel tech channel for zoomers and uneducated peasants alike. No wonder they are starving for money every second, they can't help but lie and cheat their way into respect. Not sad they will never get it.

To summarize: Linus: The RTX 3080 ti is a cheaper version of the RTX 3090 and actually makes sense for gaming unlike the 3090 which is really a Titan. It is a must buy at MSRP because despite its unappealing MSRP, the actual market value of these cards makes MSRP obsolete. Steve (Gamers Nexus): The RTX 3080 ti is an overpriced RTX 3080 and cannot justify itself through its performance. MSRP may not seem relevant, but market value still uses MSRP as a price floor and therefore still matters. This is Nvidia trying to get a slice of the reseller market. No one should ever buy this card for MSRP or higher.

Bad segue indeed. But hopefully, Ting and other advertisers are familiar enough with how your weird/lolrandom/cringe/antijoke segues usually add a positive humorous touch to the sponsored segments. If it helps; if I hear some brand dropped you because of this failed segue joke, I will think less of them; even if this fail wasn't just a one time thing, anyone with a brain that looks into your work should see clearly that you're significant net-positive, associating positive emotions to the advertisements very consistently with your humorous segues, not to mention how your presence and own brand tend to imprint by osmosis on the sponsored subject the overall fondness and respect your audience has for you.

The price to performance value just isn't here when it comes to gaming, just as it wasn't there with the 3090. the 3090 has a second case use scenario in which 24GB frame buffer will have it's use while the 3080ti's 12GB is a marginal improvement at best. even if I had bottomless pockets of money to afford any PC parts I wanted I still would op for the 3080 over the 3080ti and the 3090. mainly because I'd still have the same mindset that twice the price for %10-%15 performance does make sense to me. saying it's price is okay because of the way the current market is completely tone deaf.
